The Nineteen-sixteen Snowfield ( English for 1916 snow field ) is a snow field on the north coast of South Georgia . It lies south of the head end of Antarctic Bay between Filchner Ridge and Fortuna Glacier .
The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 2014 in memory of the year 1916 , in which Ernest Shackleton , Tom Crean and Frank Worsley made the first crossing of South Georgia as part of the Endurance Expedition (1914-1917).
