Ninja Scroll - The Series ( 獣兵衛忍風帖<龍宝玉篇> , Jubei / Jube Nimpūchō <Ryūhōgyoku Hen> ) is a 13-part anime - TV series of the studio Madhouse in 2003. It sets the film Ninja Scroll 1993 continues and takes place some time after the film's plot.

action

The ninja Kibagami Jubei travels through the country and can be hired for money, but follows the code of honor of the ninjas. Jubei was previously a member of a clan led by Himuro Genma . When he wanted to kill him, Jubei wiped out the clan.

War breaks out between the ninja clans when Roga, a member of the Hiruko clan, steals the dragon stone. Jubei takes the stone from him and after Roga's death has to bring it to Shigure, the princess of light. He is persecuted by the clans of Hiruko and Kimon Shu. Unaware of its importance, Shigure lives in a small village. When this is destroyed, she sets out with Tsubute and Dakuan on a journey to find out who she is. In a fight between Jubei and a Hiruko ninja, the stone breaks in two, one is swallowed up by roots and another falls into the hands of the Kimon Shu.

After much fighting, Shigure is finally kidnapped by the Kimon Shu and Jubei has to save her. With the Kimon Shu, the stone comes together again. In the land of the Hiruko, the dragon stone is finally given to her and she becomes the princess of light.

reception

According to AnimaniA , the series lacks the dense atmosphere and classic character design of the film. The detailed, fantastic backgrounds are praised, as is the soundtrack. The large budget is particularly evident in the high quality of the very fluid animation, which hardly manages with still images. The character design, however, is "involuntarily funny and flat". Almost all figures have been significantly rejuvenated in appearance and character, and have also become more superficial. The story is “relatively simple” and has some abrupt changes in mood. The plot without further depth only offers the framework to send the hero from fight to fight. For fans of the genre, the anime offers at least bloody ninja action with grotesque opponents, nothing for everyone else. The German synchronization has some weaknesses, the picture and sound quality of the German publication are good average.
