KK Nippon Ichi Software ( Japanese 株式会社 日本 一 ソ フ ト ウ ェ ア , Kabushiki kaisha Nippon Ichi Sofutowea , English Nippon Ichi Software, Inc. ) is a Japanese manufacturer and publisher of video games . Literally translated, the company name means "Japan's number 1". Is known Nippon Ichi Software in Europe especially for the Disgaea series.

In September 1991 the company YK Prism ( 有限会社 プ リ ズ ム , Yūgen-gaisha Purizumu , since March 2006 YK RosenQueen Shōkai ( 有限会社 ロ ー ゼ ン ク イ ー ン 商会 )) was founded. On July 12, 1993, the sales division was spun off as YK Prism Kikaku ( 有限会社 プ リ ズ ム 企 画 ). On November 4, 1994, game development was transferred from YK Prism to YK Prism Kikaku, which was renamed YK Nippon Ichi Software. On July 7, 1995, she changed the corporate form from a Yūgen-gaisha (YK) to a stock corporation (KK). December 2003 the US subsidiary NIS America , Inc. was founded, which is responsible for sales in North America. In Europe, games are distributed by third-party companies such as Koei or Atlus .
