Nirj Deva (born May 11, 1948 in Colombo , Sri Lanka ) is a British politician of the Conservative Party .

Life

Deva comes from a Catholic family from Sri Lanka and attended St Joseph's College in Colombo . Deva studied at Loughborough University in Loughborough , Leicestershire . From April 9, 1992 to May 1, 1997, Deva was the successor to Barney Hayhoe in the British House of Commons. He lost the 1997 elections to the British House of Commons against Labor politician Ann Keen . Since June 10, 1999 Deva was a member of the European Parliament . From 2009 onwards, Deva was vice chairman of the development committee and a member of the subcommittee on human rightsand in the delegation for relations with the countries of South Asia

Deva is married and has one son.
