The Njala University (NU) is a state university in the Republic of Sierra Leone . Until 2009 it was known as Njala University College (NUC) .

history

Njala was founded in 1964 and was part of the University of Sierra Leone from 1972 to 2005. Since 2009 it has been an independent, full-fledged university.

During the 10-year civil war in Sierra Leone , numerous university facilities were destroyed or looted.

In 2011/2012 the university had 6,154 students, 2,132 of whom were women. NU is the country's second largest university after the University of Sierra Leone .

management

The university's chancellor is the incumbent President of Sierra Leone, Ernest Bai Koroma . Administratively and academically, the university is run by the Vice Chancellor and Rector. He is currently chaired by a Pro-Chancellor, Sandi Bockarie, without having any practical powers. Abu Sesay has been Vice Chancellor and Rector of Njala since 2009.

The Njala campus consists of three branches in the provincial cities of Bo , Njala and Freetown . There is a close connection to the Bonthe Polytechnic Institute in Bonthe .
