Nkroful is a village in Ghana , near Axim in the Nzema East district of the Western Region , about five kilometers from the coastal road.

Nkroful is famous as the birthplace of Kwame Nkrumah , the first president and "founding father" of Ghana. Nkrumah was born here on September 21, 1909, grew up here and was buried here after his death in exile in 1972. His body was later transferred to a large mausoleum in Accra . In Nkroful, however, there is still the "original" Nkrumah mausoleum and a monument, which continue to attract visitors. The government of Ghana has announced that it will invest considerable sums here and develop Nkroful into the “political Mecca of Ghana” in view of the celebrations for Ghana's 50th anniversary. All the Nkrumah sites that still exist in Nkroful are currently being renovated, from the birthplace to the washing area.

In Nkroful, Nzema and Fante are spoken alongside English as the lingua franca . There are gold deposits near the place.
