Noël-Nicolas Coypel
Noël-Nicolas Coypel (born November 17, 1690 in Paris ; † December 14, 1734 there ) was a French painter from the early Rococo period .
Noël-Nicolas Coypel was a son of the painter Noël Coypel and the half-brother of Antoine Coypel, who was almost thirty years his senior . His pictorial subjects often came from ancient mythology. Often considered in art history as the most gifted painter of the Coypel family , even if he is the least known; this is not least due to his early death due to illness and only a short phase of artistic maturity and commercial success (from 1725 to around 1728). Although he was Peintre du Roi (the king's painter), unlike his relatives, he did not hold any management positions in French cultural institutions, probably because of his reserved character. One of his students and, for a short time, his assistant was Jean Siméon Chardin .
