The Base Joconde (German database Joconde) is a non-commercial database of the French Ministry of Culture ( Direction des musées de France ).

The Joconde lists the art holdings of French museums in the form of an online inventory. Joconde unites three databases on fine arts , archeology and ethnology under one surface . The name refers to one of the most famous paintings shown in France, the Mona Lisa in the Louvre in Paris , known in French as La Joconde .

history

The ideas of the French Revolution also provided for free access to national cultural goods. In the Chaptal Decree, a distribution key for sculptures and painting collections was created to ensure equal access to these cultural assets. A database that inventories the sculptures and painting collections was created as early as 1975 and offered on the French Minitel platform from 1992 . In 1995 the database went on the World Wide Web . In 2004 the service was expanded to include data on archeology and ethnology.
