Noa Noa
Noa Noa was a dance hall in the Mexican city of Ciudad Juarez . It was just a few blocks from the Santa Fe Street Bridge , which connects the border town with its US sister city, El Paso . The bar was opened in 1964 and destroyed in 2004 by a fire caused by a short circuit .
song
The Noa Noa gained national fame through the hit of the same name by the Mexican singer Juan Gabriel , whose career began there in 1966 and who set a monument to the restaurant with his song written in 1980. The song says, among other things: Cuándo quieras tu, divertirte más y bailar sin fin, yo sé de un lugar que te llevaré y disfrutarás de una noche que nunca olvidarás. (Eng. If you really want to have fun and dance without end, I'll take you to a place where you will experience an unforgettable night. ) And on: ¿Quieres bailar esta noche? Vamos al Noa Noa, vamos a bailar. Este es un lugar de ambiente, donde todo es diferente. Donde siempre alegremente bailarás toda la noche ahí. ( Would you like to dance tonight? Then let's go to Noa Noa. It's an atmospheric place where everything is different. Everyone is in a good mood and you can dance all night long. ).
Meaning of the name
The word combination Noa Noa is of Tahitian origin and means fragrant or fragrant . Possibly the name was taken from the book title of the same name by the painter Paul Gauguin , with which he wanted to bring the mysterious world of Tahiti closer to the French public and which he also saw as the key to understanding his painting.
Imitations
The original dance bar in Ciudad Juárez or rather the song dedicated to it by Juan Gabriel inspired imitators in other parts of the world to give their bar the same name. There is the Noa Noa Disco Bar in the Colombian capital Bogotá , the Noa Noa Lounge Bar in the Ecuadorian province of El Oro and the Noa Noa Night Club in El Paso, Texas .
