Nobby is a cliff rock in the South Atlantic . It rises out of the sea about 60 km from the southeast end of South Georgia at the southeast end of Clerke Rocks .
The British navigator James Cook discovered the Clerke Rocks in 1775. The descriptive name, which is derived from the English [k] nobby for "knubbelig" or "knotty", probably goes back to scientists of the British Discovery Investigations , which between 1926 and 1930 had explored the area around South Georgia.
