A noble guard used to be a princely bodyguard , which consisted exclusively of nobles. Important noble guards were

  • in Vienna the Royal Hungarian Nobel Guard (also "Hungarian Nobel Guard") and the "Galician Nobel Guard". They existed until 1918.
  • the Guardia Nobile of the Holy See . It existed since 1801 and was founded in 1970 by Pope Paul VI. dissolved because he wanted to reduce the cost of representation. The relatives could now serve the Pope in tails . It consisted exclusively of young members of the Roman nobility and was a mounted bodyguard until 1870.
