Noctu is a funeral doom band founded in 2015 .

history

Noctu was founded in 2015 as a solo project by the musician under the pseudonym of the same name in Crema . At the same time, the musician Noctu initiated the black metal project Atra Mors. In April 2016, the band Noctu made their debut with the EP Tempus Abire Tibi Est released via GS Productions . The following year, the album Illuminandi - Esoterica illuminazione ermetica was released, also through GS Productions , followed by a compilation of unpublished material that was self-published for download in 2019. Noctu signed a contract with Transcending Obscurity Records for the release of the second studio album Gelidae Mortis Imago in May 2020 . The response to the first releases of the project was mostly cautiously positive, while the album Gelidae Mortis Imago was widely positively discussed in advance.

style

Noctu's music is classified as Funeral Doom. The webzine Doom-Metal.com describes the music as a "cold, dreary and somber" twist on the genre, which consists of "relentlessly slow, drawn out guitar and drums playing under painful keyboard and synth melodies and a harsh half-whispered growl " . Reference is made to Hierophant for comparison . According to Riccardo Veronese , the music conveys the image of a person who is "buried alive, reaching for the surface [and] gasping for breath".
