Nomeda & Gediminas Urbonas

Nomeda & Gediminas Urbonas (founded 1997) is a Lithuanian artist duo consisting of Nomeda Urbonas (* 1968 in Kaunas ) and Gediminas Urbonas (* 1966 in Vilnius ).

In 1993 they founded Jutempus together in Vilnius . A room that was used for exhibitions and cultural events until 1996. Since then, Jutempus' projects have created a framework and serve as a basis for communication, which, according to their intentions, “transcends the boundaries of the traditional art space and seeks the media connected with society”.

In 1998/1999 Nomeda & Gediminas Urbonas started the project tvvv plotas together with other artists . It is an interdisciplinary art research project and discussion platform.

With Villa Lituania , the Urbonas represented Lithuania at the Venice Biennale .

The Transakcija / Transaction / Transaction project was exhibited at Documenta11 in 2002 . It is a collaboration, a film archive, videos and a graphic drawing system. Communication, media cooperation, discussion, information presentation and communication are used to investigate identity politics . The project explores the representation of the feminine in the images of the media and its effects on the social behavior of women.

Druzba is an oil pipeline that extends from the Urals to Central Europe. The Druzba projectby Nomeda & Gediminas Urbonas was exhibited at the Museu d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA). The artists put together a film archive from propaganda messages .

Nomeda & Gediminas Urbonas have exhibited internationally. Among others at the Biennale of São Paulo , Berlin Biennale , Moscow Biennale , Biennale d'art contemporain de Lyon , Gwangju Biennale , Manifesta , Documenta11 and Biennale di Venezia.
