Nomophylakes
With Nomophylakes ( Greek νομοφύλακες "law guardian") was in ancient Athens classical times called a seven-member supervisory authority that controlled the observance of laws and public decisions. This authority was also responsible for the safekeeping of the state documents. Their existence is for the 5th and 4th centuries BC. Chr. Attested. The organization of the nomophylakes also existed in other Greek cities in Greece and Asia Minor. Their influence was mostly limited.
During the Hellenistic period , nomophylakes can also be identified as subordinate administrative officials in Alexandria and other cities in Egypt .
