Nongpoh is a small town in the Indian state of Meghalaya .
The settlement is the capital of the Ri-Bhoi district . Nongpoh has the status of a Town Committee . The city is divided into 10 wards . On the cut-off date of the 2011 census it had 17,055 inhabitants, of whom 8,536 were men and 8,519 women. Christians make up the majority of the city's population with a share of over 82%. Hindus form a minority of around 14%. The literacy rate in 2011 was 82.6%, well above the national average. 83.3% of the population belong to the Scheduled Tribes .
