Nootka fault zone

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Nootka fault zone ( Nootka Fault ) is a transform fault in the Pacific Ocean southwest of Nootka Iceland and west of Vancouver Iceland in Canada .

The zone, the active part of which is about 20 kilometers long, lies on the boundary between two lithospheric plates : the Explorer plate and the Juan de Fuca plate . It is covered by a layer of sediment several hundred meters thick . In the fault zone, which continues on the mainland, there is also the active, largely submarine mud volcano Maquinna , which protrudes about 30 meters from the sea.
