Norbert Becker (* 1949 in Hüffelsheim , Bad Kreuznach district ) is a German biologist, professor at Heidelberg University , scientific and technical director of KABS , as well as managing director of the European Mosquito Control Association (EMCA) and President of the World Mosquito Control Association (WMCA) .

Live and act

After graduating from high school, Becker studied at the University of Heidelberg and became a Bachelor of Science in Biology, Physics and Chemistry in 1974, and the Master of Science in Biology at the Zoological Institute of Heidelberg University in 1976. The doctoral degree in Natural Sciences at the University of Heidelberg and Habilitation in Biology with Venia Legendi in zoology at the Faculty of Bio-Sciences at the University of Heidelberg, he graduated in 1983. He has been a lecturer at the University of Heidelberg since 1977, and in 2008 he completed his habilitation and teaches seminars in medical entomology and ecology at the University's Zoological Institute. As a private lecturer, Becker supervises dissertations in entomology (e.g. medical entomology) and applied field research in Heidelberg.

Becker has been active in the fight against gnats on the Upper Rhine since 1976, and since 1981 he has been the Scientific Director of the German Mosquito Control Association and Technical Director of the municipal action group to combat the gnat plague in Speyer .

Becker is also involved in numerous international organizations and is the founding president of the World Mosquito Control Association.

Norbert Becker is married and has 4 grown children.

The aim of Becker is to bring together the global associations for combating mosquitos as carriers of disease (Mosquito Control Associations) in the global organization WMCA in order to limit the transmission of diseases through mosquitoes through coordinated behavior. Becker had published more than 200 specialist articles by 2018. At the international workshop of Rotary International at the University of Prishtina (2019) on questions of the importance of mosquitoes in the fight against malaria , Becker gave the keynote address .
