Norbert Lossau (librarian)
Norbert Lossau (born June 20, 1962 in Meschede ) is a German librarian . From 2006 to 2013 he was director of the Lower Saxony State and University Library Göttingen (SUB) and has been Vice President of the University of Göttingen since 2013 .
Lossau studied Finnish-Ugrian and Scandinavian studies at the universities of Bonn and Göttingen , where he passed his master's degree in 1988 and in 1991 with the dissertation The German Petőfi Translations. After three years as a research assistant at the Finnish-Ugric seminar at the University of Göttingen, Lossau completed the legal clerkship for the higher library service from 1994 to 1996 (at the SUB Göttingen and the Cologne University of Applied Sciences ), which he completed with the assessor exam. He then worked on the preparatory phase of the DFG project Retrospective Digitization of Library Holdings and in 1997 took over the establishment and management of the Göttingen Digitization Center . In 1998 he also became a specialist librarian for the special collection areas of Hungary, Finland and Finno-Ugric Studies. In the summer of 2001 Lossau moved to Oxford University , where he became the first director of the Oxford Digital Library . In August 2002 he returned to Germany as director of the Bielefeld University Library . On October 1st, 2006 he took over the management of the SUB Göttingen. In 2011 the Humboldt University in Berlin appointed him honorary professor. On July 1, 2013, he became the full-time Vice President of the University of Göttingen.
