Norbert Morciniec (born June 4, 1932 in Opole ) is a Polish professor in the field of German and Dutch studies .

Live and act

Norbert Morciniec attended the German elementary and high school in Opole (Silesia) until 1945 and then the Polish grammar school in Opole, graduating in 1951 with the secondary school leaving certificate. After graduating from high school, he studied German at the Catholic University in Lublin (1951–53) and at the University of Breslau (1953–55). This was followed by a two-year position as an assistant in the Institute for General Linguistics and then as a senior academic assistant in the German Institute of the University of Wroclaw. In 1961 Morciniec received his doctorate with a dissertation on the subject of nominal word compositions in the West Germanic languages. In 1966/67 he spent two semesters at the Dutch Institute of the Stedelijke Universiteit in Amsterdam. In 1968 the habilitation took place on the basis of the treatise Distinctive Language Units in Dutch and German . In 1975 he was appointed associate professor and in 1983 full professor. From 1969 until his retirement he headed the chair for German language, which was expanded in 1975 to the chair for German language and Dutch studies. He performed important organizational tasks at the University of Wroclaw. He was u. a. Deputy Director of the German Institute (1969–75), Vice Dean of the Philological Faculty (1969–71), Vice Rector for Research and International Relations (1984–87), Director of the German Institute (1992/93). Norbert Morciniec also carried out important construction work at the universities in Katowice and Opole. In Katowice he was the first director of the newly established German Institute of the Silesian University , and in Opole he held lectures and seminars on German linguistics from the establishment of the German Institute there (1989) until his retirement. Since 2004 he has been a professor at the Philological University in Wroclaw. From 2009 to 2012 dean of the philological faculty, since 2013 rector of the university. Norbert Morciniec taught as a visiting professor at the universities: Leipzig 1977, Leuven 1981, Vienna 1983 and 1992, Marburg 1984, Tampere 1985, Münster 1990, Mainz 1993.
