Political career

Career in state politics (1994-2007)

Raeder came to the Grays as head of the Joe disco in Wedding. There he held tea dances on Sunday afternoons. A dozen older people came to thank them with chocolate for the change. According to his own statements, Raeder was so touched that he decided to get involved with the elderly. In 1994 Raeder joined the GRAUEN. Within his party, Raeder first rose to become state chairman in Berlin. While the party had only eight members when he joined the party in Berlin, the number there rose to around 500 in the following years. This was also reflected in the election results: From 1995 onwards, the party regularly achieved results that were above one percent in Berlin parliamentary elections.

In the Berlin election of 2006, the GRAUEN achieved their best state election result in their history with 3.8%; The party was also successful in the district council elections that took place at the same time: there, for example, competed in eight out of twelve districts; In all cases she managed to move in by overcoming the 3% hurdle that applies there. In Reinickendorf she achieved seven percent and four seats. Until 2011 Raeder, who was also the district chairman of the Reinickendorf district association, was a member of the local district council and chairman of the parliamentary group. Among other things, Raeder fights against the smoking ban in pubs. On January 9, 2007, he was a guest on the ARD show Menschen bei Maischberger ; the theme was The Gray Revolution: Are We Ready for the Old Republic?

Federal Chairman and founding of a successor party (since 2007)

In October 2007 he became national chairman of his party as the successor to the long-time incumbent and party founder Trude Unruh . At the same time, however, the GRAUEN got into a donation affair, whereupon they decided to dissolve them in March 2008. For this reason, Raeder resigned from his position as federal chairman in January after only four months. He announced the establishment of a successor party called The Gray - Generations Party , which took place on March 1, 2008. For this reason, he was expelled from the party at the beginning of March, two weeks before the dissolution came into force.
