history

The history of the North German Greyhound Racing Club begins in the post-war period . It is linked to the organization of the German Greyhound Derby .

20th century

In February 1946, the North German Greyhound Friends Association was founded in Hamburg . V. founded.

In 1948 he organized his first big race on a sports field in Altona . The ground on which the greyhounds ran was not grass or sand , but rather an injury-threatening grand . Participated in the race Greyhounds , Whippets and Borzois part.

Two years later, in 1950, the Windhund-Renngesellschaft mbH was founded . The purpose of the company was also to build and operate greyhound tracks. As a result, the first racetrack was built in Hamburg-Farmsen . The inaugural race took place there on May 21, 1950.

In the following year, 1951, the North German Greyhound Friends Association was founded. V. renamed Norddeutscher Windhund-Rennverein e. V.

In 1954 he carried out the first German greyhound derby . The NWR is also the organizer of the derby in the 21st century. Registered for the derby in 1954, among other breeds, were Afghan Hounds ; a novelty in racing history.

Since 1992, the NWR has been a corporate member of the German Greyhound Breeding and Racing Association (DWZRV) .

21st century

In the 21st century, races are no longer run in Farmsen, but on the Höltigbaum . The endless system, dismantled in 1995, was rebuilt there in 2000 . Another location for the racetrack had to be found because the lease for the site originally made available for racing by the City of Hamburg in 1950 had been terminated at the end of the 20th century.

In 2011, the race track at Höltigbaum was renamed Günther-Schultze -Windhundstadíon . Günther Schultze was one of the defining personalities in the club's history, including being the managing director of the Windhund-Renngesellschaft mbH founded in 1950 .

For the first time in 2004, the club organized a race for non-greyhounds. These fun races or "every dog ​​races", which are always organized on May 1st and October 3rd, have been part of the NWR portfolio ever since .
