Nordhusia

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Nordhusia is an underwater town in the Sundhäuser See near Nordhausen , which was created by the “Actionsport” diving center in Nordhausen in 2011 and is to be continuously expanded.

The underwater city at a depth of approx. 13 meters below the water level on the bottom of the Sundhäuser Lake is modeled on the free imperial city of Nordhausen. This includes a piece of the city wall with a length of 15 meters and about 2 meters high with a tower and city gate. Next to it is a cemetery with several tombstones and an open grave. So far there are two half-timbered houses of the houses, inside of which there are also carved wooden figures.

As a special feature, the first underwater church in Germany with a bell was added in 2013 with a base area of 10 × 10 meters. It was consecrated to John the Baptist during a service. In 2014, Nordhusia was to be supplemented by a city park.

As part of the Kunst im See campaign , seven new concrete figures were sunk to a depth of approx. 10 m in May 2019, which divers can view underwater.

Every year, the Sundhäuser Lake is visited by up to 10,000 divers.
