The Sundhäuser See is a body of water in the southeast of the city of Nordhausen on the southern edge of the Harz Mountains , which was created through gravel mining .
Together with the Forellensee , Tauchersee , Bielener See and Möwensee , the Sundhäuser See forms a lake landscape. The lake extends over a length of 1.2 km and a width of 600 m.
use
The gravel deposits were lifted by the so-called bucket conveyor technology, which leads to particularly special underwater formations. The vegetation extends to a depth of 20 m, the fish population is diverse. Among other things, perch , pike , rudd and lead can be found.
Due to the low level of water pollution, the lakes offer ideal conditions for diving . A diving center is located on the northwestern bank. In 2011 the underwater city of Nordhusia was inaugurated. Furthermore, there are a total of 4 wrecks in the lake, which can also be dived. In May 2019, seven concrete figures were sunk as part of the "Art in the Lake" project.
