Epitaciolândia , officially Município de Epitaciolândia , is a small town in the southeast of the Brazilian state of Acre . According to the 2010 census, the community had 15,100 inhabitants, who are called Epitaciolandese. According to the IBGE's estimate of July 1, 2019, the population was calculated to be 18,411. The area is 1654.768 km², the population density 9.1 people per km². The distance to the capital Rio Branco is 243 km.
The place is named after the former Brazilian President Epitácio Pessoa , initially as Vila Epitaciolândia . In 1992, ten cities were founded during the tenure of Governor Edmundo Pinto . On April 13, 1992, a referendum took place on Epitaciolândia, which led to the granting of city rights on April 28, 1992.
Adjacent cities are Xapuri in the north and Brasiléia in the west, with which Epitaciolândia together with Assis Brasil formed the micro-region Brasileia from 1989 to 2017 , which in turn formed the mesoregion Vale do Acre with the micro-regions Rio Branco and Sena Madureira . The place is a border town to Bolivia .
After the local elections in 2016, Tião Flores of the Partido Socialista Brasileiro (PSB), who replaced his predecessor André Luiz Pereira Hassem from the Partido da Social Democracia Brasileira (PSDB), is city prefect for the 2017 to 2020 term of office .
