Xapuri , officially Portuguese Município de Xapuri , is a small town with a large municipality in the state of Acre in northwestern Brazil . The rubber tapper and union leader Chico Mendes came from this city.
General
According to the 2010 census, the city has 16,091 inhabitants, who are called Xapuriens. It ranks ninth of the 22 cities in Acre by population. The population density is at a rounded 5347.4 km² three inhabitants per km². As of July 1, 2019, the population was estimated at 19,323.
The city was founded on March 22, 1904, after Acre had been ceded by the Treaty of Petrópolis from Bolivia to Brazil, as Vila de Xapuri and received city rights as a Munizip on October 23, 1912. The east of the municipality forms a border with Bolivia . In Xapuri, the left tributary Rio Xapuri flows into the important waterway, Rio Acre . The road connection is via the AC-485 state road .
