Nordians Hög

Nordians Hög (RAÄ-Nr. Norrsunda 31: 1 - also "Kung Nordians Hög") is one of 164 larger burial mounds in Uppland and one of the largest in Sweden . It is located in Åshusby near Norrsunda in the municipality of Sigtuna . Lake Fysingen is about a kilometer south .

Nordians Hög is located on a 25.0 m high gravel hill. According to Daniel Langhammer's calculation, it had a diameter of 53–56 meters. According to the official protection register, the diameter is about 50.0 meters, the height was up to 12.0 meters. It is one of the most important hills in Uppland and in the terminology of Åke Hyenstrand (1939–2007) a “Kungshögen”. On the hill there is a building stone 1.9 meters high, 1.7 meters wide and 0.3-0.4 meters thick .

The hill is surrounded by a burial ground, which consists of 152 round and 20 rectangular stone settings , ten smaller mounds, five building stones, two Treuddar and a ship setting . Ten stone settings have a central grave ball ( Swedish Gravklot , Grav orb or Stenklot ).

No excavations were carried out on the Iron Age burial ground .

  1. Åshusby was an important place in the early Middle Ages . The so-called "Husbyorte" were probably in royal possession.
