Leonard Theodor Schwertfeger ( Russian Леонард Теодор Швертфегер * 1680, † after 1738 ) was a Prussian architect of the Baroque in St. Petersburg .

Life

Schwertfeger came to St. Petersburg from Prussia in 1713 and entered the service of Peter I.

Domenico Trezzini developed the first building project for the Alexander Nevsky Monastery , founded by Peter I in 1710 . In 1717, Trezzini began building the corner tower for the Church of the Annunciation and the adjacent Duchowski corpus. Trezzini was then replaced by Christof Konrad , and in 1720 Schwertfeger took over the construction management for the monastery. The central cathedral was started in 1722 with no dome and towers planned. However, the building sank and was demolished.

Another project Schwertfeger was building the inn of the Alexander Nevsky Monastery on Vasilyevsky Island (1720-1726). With Trezzini, Schwertfeger planned the construction of the building of the Twelve Colleges (1722–1744).

In 1733 Schwertfeger received his departure. In 1738 he returned to Berlin .
