Noritake service at Saigō Tsugumichi's home in Meiji Mura

KK Noritake Company, Limited ( Japanese 株式会社 ノ リ タ ケ カ ン パ ニ ー リ ミ テ ド , Kabushiki kaisha Noritake Kampanī Rimitedo ) is a major Japanese pottery manufacturer. The headquarters are in the central Japanese city of Nagoya in Aichi Prefecture .

history

Noritake grew out of a trading company founded in 1876 in Tokyo and New York City by the Morimura brothers. 1904 founded Morimura Ichizaemon ( 森 村 市 左衛 門 ) the Nippon Tōki Gōmei-gaisha ( 日本 陶器 合 名 会 社 , German "Japan-Porzellan OHG ") in Japan. This forerunner of today's company was founded in the village of Noritake, a small suburb near Nagoya. After various mergers, the company now comes under the umbrella of the resident of Nippon Tōki Gōmei-gaisha. Most products from the earlier period bore the Nippon stamp on the back to show the country of manufacture. Today, many collectors agree that the best pieces of hand-painted porcelain were made between 1891 and 1921.

Although customers and collectors have been calling the goods under the general name Noritake (and / or simply Nippon ) since the 1920s , the manufacturer did not officially bear this name until 1981. Since Noritake is also the name of the place, the company was registered as a trade name until then prohibited.
