Norma Smallwood
Norma Smallwood (* 1909 in Tulsa , Oklahoma , † May 1966 in Wichita , Kansas ) was the sixth Miss America in 1926 .
Norma Smallwood won the Miss America election in Atlantic City in 1926 , making her the first "Miss" of Indian descent . After her victory, she interrupted the College for a year and took over as Miss America different jobs, so as poster girl for Meadows Washing Machines and Westinghouse Electric , what you in the year as Miss America 100,000 USD earned. On September 3, 1928, she married the art collector and oil millionaire Thomas Gilcrease . With him she had a daughter, whom she gave birth to in 1930. However, their marriage ended in divorce in 1933.
She later married George H. Bruce , President of Aladdin Petroleum Corporation in Wichita, and devoted her spare time to charitable work. She died in Wichita in 1966 at the age of 57.
