The Nordhäuser Maschinenbau GmbH , which from 1937 under the name Normag changed its name, was a German manufacturer of tractors .

history

The company began to produce tractors in Nordhausen am Harz in 1934 and sold them under the name “Rohöl-Ackerschlepper”. Like the Lanz Bulldog, these tugs were equipped with a 1-cylinder, 2-stroke hot- bulb engine. It should deliver between 20 and 26 hp at a speed between 500 and 700 rpm.

From 1938 the 22 HP diesel tractor "NG 22" was built, which was supplemented from 1941 by the 22 HP "NG 10". These two tugs were taken out of the program in 1942 because of the increasing fuel shortage during the Second World War. Only the wood gas tractor "NG 25" was manufactured.

After the end of the war, the Nordhäuser Maschinenbau GmbH plant was located in the Soviet occupation zone . This made the new beginning difficult, as the vehicles were mainly sold in western Germany before 1939. The future of the company is therefore seen in West Germany. Operations manager August von Scheven is looking for a new location. First of all, the Lower Saxony municipality of Zorge is chosen. In order to differentiate itself from the old location, the brand name Normag-Zorge was chosen. In Zorge, production of the 24 hp “NG 23” could be started again as early as 1946, which was similar in many parts to the pre-war model “NG 22”. But von Scheven is pushing further west: into the Ruhr area. First to Sprockhövel , his hometown and finally to neighboring Hattingen . In 1947 a self-developed engine was installed in the "NG 23 K" for the first time, which was developed in the Hattingen branch under the direction of August von Scheven.

Normag Zorge Cornet I

From 1949 the tractor range was supplemented by the "NG 15 L", which was followed in 1950 by the "NG 35". From 1952 the types “C 10”, “Factor I”, “Factor II” and the large tractor “NG 45” were added. This enabled Normag to offer a complete range of tractors between 10 and 45 hp, which was rounded off by the two types "Cornet I" and "Cornet II" introduced in 1954.

When sales fell, Normag was taken over by O&K in 1955 . In 1956 a completely new tractor program was presented, which included the types "N 12", "K 15a", "K 18a", "F 22", "F 30", "NG 35 M" and "NG 45 L". But even when the “K 13a” and “K 16b” types were added in 1957, sales continued to decline. It was therefore agreed with Porsche Diesel GmbH that it would secure the supply of spare parts for the remaining Normag tractors from January 1, 1958. At this point in time, Normag stopped manufacturing tractors.
