Norman from Nida

Norman von Nida (born February 14, 1914 in Strathfield , Australia , † May 20, 2007 in Gold Coast , Queensland ) was an Australian golfer.

Life

Norman von Nida was born on February 14, 1914 as one of seven children in Strathfield, Australia. A few years after his birth, he moved with his family to Brisbane , where he grew up. He started playing golf at the age of fourteen . When he won the Queensland Amateur Open in 1932 at the age of 18 , he was already a professional golfer a year later. Von Nida became one of the most successful Australian golfers and the first Australian to win the UK golf tour.

Career

During the Second World War he did not take part in any golf tournament; only again in 1946 when he traveled to Great Britain for the first time. He was able to finish the Order of Merit in second place. He returned a year later and this time won seven tournaments in one year. The Australian PGA Tour is named after him as the Von Nida Tour .
