The Materials Testing Standards Committee (NMP) in the DIN German Institute for Standardization e. V. is responsible for the development of test standards and terminology standards as well as basic standards and product standards for a large number of materials .

history

In 1947, the first meeting of the committees of the technical standards committee for material testing of technology took place in Berlin. An office of the MPA (Material Testing Committee) was set up in Stuttgart in 1948. In 1950 this body was then renamed "Fachnormenausschuss Materialprüfung" (FNM). The office moved to Dortmund in 1955, where it remained for 18 years. In 1973 the company moved to Berlin and in 1979 the office was moved to the Haus der Normung in Berlin, Burggrafenstraße 4 - 10.

Standard areas

Standardization work is defined for the following areas and areas:

  • Metals (mechanical-technological test methods, coatings and corrosion )
  • Building materials and non-metallic inorganic substances (ceramic raw materials, semiconductors , natural stone, glass and glass ceramics)
  • Organic substances (paper and cardboard, rubber , elastomers , textiles , leather, surfactants , gases, solid fuels)
  • Mineral oil and fuel standardization
  • Nuclear technology
  • Substance-independent testing, basics and special areas of material testing

Important publications of the NMP (selection)

  • Nanotechnology dictionary: Standard-compliant definitions with translations - German - English / English - German. 1st edition. Beuth Verlag, 2012, ISBN 978-3-410-22343-6 .
  • DIN-Taschenbuch 358: Aggregates, armouring stones, track ballast, filler - test methods. 2nd Edition. Beuth Verlag, 2008, ISBN 978-3-410-16717-4 .

organization

The NMP has currently organized its technical work in nine departments:

  • Metals (mechanical-technological test methods, coatings and corrosion)
  • Building materials and non-metallic inorganic substances I (ceramic raw materials, semiconductors)
  • Building materials and non-metallic inorganic substances II (natural stone, glass and glass ceramics)
  • Organic substances I (paper and cardboard, rubber and elastomers)
  • Organic substances II (textiles, leather, surfactants, gases, solid fuels)
  • Mineral oil and fuel standardization
  • Nuclear technology
  • Substance-independent testing, basics and special areas of material testing
  • Chemical-technical basics
