The normocytic anemia is an anemia (anemia), with normal-sized red blood cells (erythrocytes), so a mean corpuscular volume in the normal range of 80 associated to 100th However, the hematocrit and hemoglobin are decreased. It is a common problem that usually occurs in women and men over the age of 85. The prevalence increases with age and reached 44 percent in men over 85 years of age.
causes
The following conditions are considered to be the cause of normocytic anemia:
- a decrease in the production of normal-sized red blood cells (e.g. anemia in chronic diseases, aplastic anemia )
- an increased production of HbS , as in sickle cell anemia
- increased destruction or loss of red blood cells (e.g. haemolysis , posthemorrhagic anemia)
- an uncompensated increase in plasma volume (e.g. due to pregnancy , fluid overload)
- a B2 deficiency deficiency
- a B6 deficiency deficiency
- a combination of causes of macrocytic and microcytic anemia
