A standard throat or swallowing cylinder is a plastic tube the size of a child's throat . This will be toys or small parts of toys tested to see if they of young children can be swallowed and thus a danger to health may represent the child.

The test is regulated by the standard EN 71-1 Safety of Toys - Part 1: Mechanical and physical properties and carried out, for example, by TÜV . This standard is also published as a DIN standard .
