North Haa

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The North Haa is a former manor house on the Scottish Shetland island of Yell . In 1971 the North Haa was included in the Scottish Monuments List in the highest category A.

history

The North Haa originally dates back to the 17th century. An exact date of construction is not known. Around 1770 the building was modernized and expanded. However, it was given its current appearance around 1830. John Ogilvy of Quarff married Barbara Grace Robertson , heiress of the estate, in 1829 and had construction work carried out shortly afterwards. As part of this measure, the flat side wings and decorations were added. The gardens were probably laid out in their present form at this time.
