The North Philadelphia Station (German: Bahnhof Philadelphia-Nord ) is a wedge station in the north of the city of Philadelphia in the US state of Pennsylvania . It is located on Broad Street at 2900 North at the junction of the Chestnut Hill West Line from the Northeast Corridor . It originally belonged to the Pennsylvania Railroad (PRR) network and is now (2008) served by two regional train lines of the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) and by a few Amtrak trains that run along the corridor. The abbreviation is PHN. The station has been listed as a building under the name Germantown Junction Station on the National Register of Historic Places since July 1999 .

The main strand of the tracks belongs to the northeast corridor, which runs in a northeast-southwest direction at this point. There are two high central platforms that can be reached through an underpass. Three of the original eight tracks have been removed. Immediately to the west of the platforms, the double-track Chestnut Hill West Line branches off in a tight curve from the southwest towards the north. There are two low, shorter side platforms in the curve. All tracks are electrified with overhead lines.

The original station building is on the south side of the main tracks. It was built in 1901 in the neo-renaissance style and is the oldest surviving station building on the northeast corridor. It was closed at some point and was left to decay for a long time. Today it houses a supermarket. Its original function was taken over by a new, small, low-rise building on the north side of the platform underpass. The underpass was walled up on the south side.

Also immediately to the west of the platforms, the four-track SEPTA Main Line, which originally belonged to the PRR competitor Reading , crosses the northeast corridor at an almost right angle. There are no platforms there; Instead, about 500 meters south of the underpass is the North Broad Station .

At the eastern end of the two central platforms, Broad Street crosses under the northeast corridor in a north-south direction. The subway runs underneath with the Broad Street Line . Their North Philadelphia station is located between the aforementioned train stations.

Although North Philadelphia forms a transport hub together with the main line stop and the subway station, there are comparatively very few passengers. In 2007, SEPTA counted 164 boarding and 280 boarding passengers per day in regional traffic, Amtrak counted 349 passengers for the whole year in 2008, which statistically corresponds to about one passenger per day.
