Northbar House , also House of Hill , is a farmhouse in the Scottish town of Inchinnan in the Renfrewshire council area . In 1971 the building was included in the Scottish List of Monuments in the highest category A.

history

The history of Northbar House is not entirely clear. In 1671 Donald Gilchrist , who also built a jetty on the nearby Clyde , acquired the land and built a house there in 1676, which was originally adopted as Northbar House. Today it is more likely that Northbar House was built near the first-mentioned building around 1742. The alternative name House of Hill does not seem to appear until the middle of the 19th century.

description

The farmhouse is isolated on the eastern edge of Inchinnan. With the exception of the coat of arms of the Gilchrist family above the central entrance door, the facades of the Harl- plastered Northbar House are unadorned. The windows are arranged over three floors on five vertical axes. The gables are made as a stepped gable . The veranda is more recent and does not correspond to the original condition.
