Norvegia Bank

The Norvegia Bank ( English ) is a submarine bank on the eastern edge of the Weddell Sea . It lies in front of Cape Norvegia on the Princess Martha coast of the East Antarctic Queen Maud Land .

It is named at the suggestion of the surveyor and glaciologist Heinrich Hinze from the Alfred Wegener Institute based on the name of the neighboring cape. It is named after the expedition ship Norvegia , from which the Norwegian polar explorer Hjalmar Riiser-Larsen started on his Antarctic flight in February 1930.
