The Norwegian Research Center for Violence and Traumatic Stress (Norwegian Nasjonalt kunnskapssenter om vold og traumatisk stress , abbreviated NKVTS ) is a state, interdisciplinary research institute in Norway based in Oslo .

It focuses on violence and sexual abuse , disasters , terrorism , armed conflict and psychological trauma , and forced migration and refugee health . The research encompasses psychological, psychiatric, social science and legal perspectives. The institute was founded in 2004 by the Norwegian government and is an affiliate of the University of Oslo . It receives its funding and tasks directly from the government and therefore has a special status within the university.
