The Compton Valley is an icy valley in Marie Byrd Land in West Antarctica . It lies in the Thiel Mountains on the north flank of the Ford massif between the Reed Ridge and Walker Spur .
The valley was explored between 1960 and 1961 by a team from the United States Geological Survey . The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named it in 1962 after Lieutenant Romuald P. Compton of the United States Navy , who died on November 9, 1961 when a Lockheed P2V Neptune crashed near Wilkes Station .
