The Ford-solid is a wide, provided with snowy and mainly flattened peaks solid , which over a length of approximately 25 kilometers and a width of about 8 kilometers, the scenic striking formation of the northern Thiel Mountains on the border of the West Antarctic Marie Byrd Lands represents to Ellsworthland . It rises up to 2810 m and, apart from the south side, has foothills in the form of steep, rocky cliffs .
The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named it in 1962 after the geologist Arthur B. Ford (* 1932) of the United States Geological Survey , who led several groups between 1960 and 1979 to study this area and the Pensacola Mountains in Queen Elizabeth Land.
