The Nostoc Lake is a lake in East Antarctic Coats Land . It is located about 1.5 km southwest of Mount Provender in the western part of the Shackleton Range .
It was mapped in 1957 by participants in the Commonwealth Trans-Antarctic Expedition (1955–1958) under the direction of British polar explorer Vivian Fuchs . It is named after the cyanobacteria of the genus Nostoc that colonize the lake.
