Notepad2 is an open-source - text editor for Microsoft Windows, released under a BSD software license . It was developed by Florian Balmer and is based on the Scintilla component for word processing.

It supports syntax highlighting in the following languages:

Notepad2 also supports search and replace with regular expressions , conversion between the encodings ASCII , UTF-8 and UTF-16 / Unicode , multiple undo / redo and automatic indentation. The editor can handle the various line breaks in DOS (CR / LF), Unix (LF) and Mac (CR). In addition to the 32-bit version, there is also a version that is specially designed for use on 64-bit systems.

Due to the open source, there are many modifications that are managed by other developers. For example, there are versions that offer additional functions for encryption or code folding .
