Novosibirsk Chess Club

The Novosibirsk Chess Club ( Russian: Новосибирский городской шахматный клуб ) was a chess club from the Russian city of Novosibirsk . It was formed in 1972 on the initiative of Konstantin Sukharev , among others .

history

The club was opened the following year according to the decision of the Novosibirsk City Council on May 26, 1971. In its prime, it had more than 200 members and a library of around 500 volumes. The game was played in two rooms on up to 36 boards.

In 1988 the club team won the first Soviet team championship in Naberezhnye Chelny . After seven years, Novaya Sibir's win at the Russian team championship was another highlight in the club's history. In 1996 the team from Novosibirsk took part in the European Club Cup and reached third place in the final table.

Various national events took place on the premises of the club, including the semi-finals of the Soviet women's championship in 1975 and the Russian team championship in 1995 (1st division). On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the city of Novosibirsk, the club organized a well-staffed international tournament in 1993.

Well-known former players of the club are Marat Makarow , Anatoli Waisser , Gennady Timoschtschenko , Pawel Maletin, Dmitri Botscharow, Alexander Goldin , Wadim Ruban, Alexander Fominych, Alexander Chassin, Sergei Judin, Wera Nebolsina and Julija Djomina .

At the beginning of 2007 there was a crisis when the club had to fight the accusation that it was no longer up to date. As a result, in the thirty-fifth year of its existence, it was converted into the chess school for children and teenagers.
