Gennadij Timoščenko

Gennadij Timoščenko ( Russian Геннадий Анатольевич Тимощенко ; born April 27, 1949 in Chelyabinsk ) is a Slovak chess master and coach with Russian roots.

Life

Timoščenko learned to play chess at the age of seven, and when he was ten he was involved in the chess circles of the pioneer house . Timoščenko was a student at the famous Botvinnik chess school . In 1980 he received the grandmaster title . Timoščenko was one of the best chess players in the Soviet Union, twice he played in championships of the Soviet Union ( Frunze 1981 and Sverdlovsk 1987). From 1982 to 1986 he was part of Garry Kasparov's staff . Timoščenko moved to Slovakia in 1993, for which he also plays internationally.

Timoščenko won or occupied top places in many tournaments: 1st place in Rimavská Sobota (1974), 1st place in Polanica-Zdrój (1976), Varna (1977), Słupsk (1979), I-II. Place in Helsinki , I-II. 1st place in London , shared winner in Šaľa (1994), 1st place in Starý Smokovec (1996), shared winner in Bozen (1998), Seefeld (1st place 1998, shared winner 1999), Padua (shared winner 1998, I- 2nd place 2000), 1st place in Cutro (2000) and I-II. Place in Opatija (2003).

Since 2010 he has held the title of FIDE Senior Trainer. Timoščenko's Elo number is 2457 (as of December 2014), his highest Elo number of 2540 he reached in July 1993 and again in July 1997.

National team

With the Slovak national team Timoščenko took part in the Chess Olympiads 1996 , 2000 , 2002 , 2004 and 2006 and the European Team Championships in 1997 and 2001. At the European team in 1997 in Pula , he achieved the third-best result on the third board.

In the Soviet club championship Timoščenko took part in 1966 with Trud , 1978 and 1982 with the army selection. In 1990 he played for the team from Vektor Novosibirsk , with which he also took part in the European Club Cup that same year . In the Slovak Extraliga he played in the 1993/94 season and from 2008 to 2010 for Antre VŠP Nitra , from 1997 to 2002 for the ŠK Bestex Nové Zámky , with whom he became champion in 1998 , and in the 2007/08 season for TJ Slávia CAISSA Čadca . With Corpora Lipovec he took part in the European Club Cup in 2002 and 2003, but was not used in the Extra League , in the Czech Extra League he played from 1998 to 2007 for TJ TŽ Třinec , with whom he became Czech team champion in 2003 , and in the 2007/08 season for TJ Tatran Litovel .
