Nsenga

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Nsenga are a Bantu ethnic group in Zambia , Zimbabwe and Mozambique .

Their settlement area is the valley of the Zambezi at the mouth of the Luangwa , where many minorities live and 70 Bantu languages are spoken. It is also difficult to distinguish the Nsenga from other tribes in the area as they share many of the habits and customs of the neighboring Bemba , Bisa and Lala . Their language differs only slightly from Tumbuka . Further north they speak Nyanja , like the Chewa and Nguni of this area.

427,000 Nsenga live in Zambia, 16,100 in Zimbabwe and 141,000 in Mozambique.

Historically there is only the general tradition that they immigrated from Central Africa around the birth of Christ.

The Zambian President Edgar Lungu , who was elected in 2015, is a member of the Nsenga.
