The computer game Nuclear Dawn combines the first person shooter - and the real-time strategy game - genre (RTS / FPS). In February 2006 it was announced as an amateur modification for the Source Engine . In April 2009, however, it was announced that they wanted to develop it further as a commercial project. It was released on September 26, 2011 for Windows and Mac . A beta for Linux was released at the end of 2013 .

Gameplay

At the beginning of each round, one player from each team (empire or consortium) is elected as the commander, who gives his team orders from above and builds buildings. The other players are soldiers with normal first-person shooter characteristics.

The primary goal is to destroy the enemy team's command bunker. The commander can construct buildings using resources obtained from his team's soldiers.

On the field

  • Four individual classes, which are dependent on each other due to their strengths and weaknesses, which should improve cooperative teamwork, tactics and strategy.
  • A large number of weapons to survive on the battlefield. These include a. Machine guns, shotguns, miniguns, and explosives.

Nuclear Dawn was considered a vaporware for a long time because there wasn't much information in its development as a modification.

As a reason for switching to the commercial project, InterWave stated that more was possible with financial help.

The reviews for Nuclear Dawn have been mostly positive. The game achieved a Metascore of 71 on the Metacritic side .
