Nuha Touray also in the spelling variant Noah Touray (* 20th century) is a Gambian politician and administrative officer in the West African state of Gambia . He has been Secretary General and Head of Public Service since May 2020.

Life

Touray was employed in the Gambian civil service from October 1988 and rose through his appointment to Deputy Permanent Secretary, Permanent Secretary and Cabinet Secretary until June 2016. He was then appointed Executive Assistant to the Vice President of the West African Economic Community (ECOWAS).

Effective May 26, 2020, Nuha Touray has been appointed General Secretary and Head of Public Service by President Adama Barrow to succeed Muhammed BS Jallow , who had retired the day before .

criticism

Touray's appointment as general secretary and head of public service was criticized on social media, as Touray was considered one of the close confidants of ex-President Yahya Jammeh , he served as cabinet secretary during the Jammeh regime. He was accused of corruption by the Janneh Commission . The commission, which examined the financial dealings of Jammeh and his close confidants, found that Touray and dozens of other individuals had corrupt practices in handling public money.

The chairman of the Gambia Moral Congress (GMC), lawyer Mai Fatty , criticized the appointment as not being constitutional. According to his opinion, according to the Gambian Constitution, only the person who had previously worked in the public service may be appointed as Secretary General and Head of the Public Service. Fatty does not question Touray's qualifications and extensive civil service experience.
