Janneh Commission

The Janneh Commission (officially: Commission of Inquiry Into the Financial Activities of Public Bodies, Enterprises and Offices as Regards Their Dealings with Former President Yahya AJJ Jammeh and Connected Matters ) was a committee of inquiry to investigate the financial activities of former Gambian President Yahya Jammeh , who ruled the Gambia from 1994 to January 2017. The committee existed from July 2017 to 2019 and was chaired by Sourahata B. Semega-Janneh . The final report of the committee was followed by government sanctions against around three dozen people.

Facility

The swearing-in of the members of the committee of inquiry took place on July 13, 2017 by President Adama Barrow . The area of ​​responsibility extended to all financial activities of state authorities and companies under Yahya Jammeh . The mandate initially extended over three months.

Examination results and reactions

On March 29, 2019, the committee of inquiry presented the results to President Adama Barrow. The results of the investigation were only presented to the public a few months later, on September 13, 2019.

A total of 38 close associates were named and their activities explained. As a result, the people concerned were sanctioned by the government.

The US welcomed the publication of the report and offered assistance in tracking financial transactions.
