Fatou Mass Jobe-Njie

Fatou Mass Jobe-Njie (also Fatou Mas Jobe , born around 1966 in Serekunda ) is a Gambian politician.

Family and education

Jobe-Njie's father died when she was three years old. Her mother Adama Saidy died a few years later, so that she and her siblings grew up with her uncle Alhage Jagne and her grandmother Mam Anta Khan in Serekunda. Alieu Momar Njie , chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission in the 2016 presidential election , is her cousin. Her half-brother Serign Jobe was director of the Gambian National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC).

She was married to political scientist Gumbo Touray and has a son with him, Ousman Touray. After divorcing Touray, she married Buna Njie.

Fatou Mass Jobe-Njie attended Serrekunda Primary School and St. Joseph's High School in Banjul. She studied in Great Britain from 1984 to 1989 and obtained a Master of Business Administration from the University of Wolverhampton .

Career

She initially worked in the tourism industry, later from March 1994 to November 1996 in marketing at Gamtel .

From 1998 she headed the Marketing department at Standard Chartered Bank and worked at Bank PHB as Head of Private Customers.

Around 2008 she was director of The Gambia's Premier Resort and Casino (also: Dunes Resort and Casino ) in Kotu .

4 February 2010 Jobe-Njie was by President Yahya Jammeh to the cabinet (as Minister of Tourism and Culture English Minister of Tourism and Culture ) appointed and replaced Nancy Njie . In the same year she received the Order of the Republic of The Gambia in the medal stage . In September 2014 she was released and replaced by Benjamin Roberts .

Shortly after her release, in October 2014 she was appointed ambassador to Malaysia , where there had previously been no permanent Gambian embassy. She held the post until the end of March 2015. Abubacarr Jah took over the position in May 2015 .

Njie was also the chairperson of the Gambia National Red Cross Society . She was also elected chairwoman of the Africa Travel Association in May 2010 .

From summer 2015 until the end of 2016 she worked as a personal advisor to First Lady Zineb Jammeh and director of their charity, Operation Save the Children Foundation (OSCF).

In August 2017, her diplomatic passport was declared invalid.

On January 31, 2018, she was interrogated as a witness by the Janneh Commission , a committee of inquiry set up by President Adama Barrow to investigate the financial activities of former President Yahya Jammeh . She said that of the US $ 300,000 taken by Operation Save the Children Foundation (OSCF), only US $ 25,000 was spent on children.

The committee's final report was published in September 2019. The committee saw joint responsibility for financial transactions during a state visit, a hotel visit and the embezzlement of funds from the foundation. The government rejected the recommended dismissal, as no individual misconduct could be proven.
